All-Hands Engineering Team Meeting (ETM)
The all-hands Engineering Team Meeting, or ETM for short, is a time for our team to come together to discuss code, give feedback on work, and solve problems the team is facing as a group. Each meeting features:
- A technical discussion about a work challenge a teammate is facing or has recently solved, and/or.
- A team process, best practice, or problem that needs updating, creating, or solving.
Technical discussions can vary in topic, depending on the engineer sharing that week and the specific challenge they face.
Engineers who can’t directly contribute to the technical discussion because they aren’t familiar with the topic or stack will be expected to participate by asking questions, taking notes, and summarizing the conversation at the end of the meeting.
Process improvement topics the ETM can cover include:
- Tools & Templates
- Roles & Responsibilities
- Software Development Best Practices
- Process Improvements
- Team Communication & Morale
Suppose the issue or question does not fit into at least one of these categories. In that case, it is likely not a good candidate for a group ETM conversation. It should be addressed either in a project meeting or a 1:1 with your manager.
Frequency
Section titled “Frequency”ETMs are currently held monthly on the third Tuesday of the month; however, this frequency has changed and can change. For instance, in 2022, ETMs were held every other week.
Meeting frequency is determined by the team manager after considering team size, project needs, and current issues or blockers facing the team.
Past Meetings
Section titled “Past Meetings”Notes from all past meetings can be viewed in Confluence under ETM Meeting Notes.
